Where to look
- Drawer runners, joints and corner blocks
- The back panel and the gap between the unit and the wall
- Screw holes, handles and hardware fixings
- Underneath the item, including feet and rails
- Any label, veneer edge or split that creates a gap
How to inspect a wooden unit
- Empty and remove each drawer.
- Check the empty carcass, especially the corners and back.
- Turn or tilt the item where it is safe to do so and check the underside.
- Check the wall and skirting behind the item.
Treatment considerations
Because the harbourage is accessible rather than embedded in the material, professionals can usually treat wooden furniture in place as part of the room. Decisions about specific items belong with the provider carrying out the work.
